Squid Grow Their Sound With New Track
Feeling fed up with gigs being cancelled and album releases being delayed? At least we have Squid. The Brighton quintet have dropped their first single since joining Warp Records, and it’s perfect for these trying times.
Funky post-punk, it conjures up memories of early Peace, as well as the likes of The Clash and Public Image Ltd. It’s fitting that ‘Sludge’ was first thought up during a soundcheck as the band were supporting iconic art punks Wire, as the track oozes creativity and innovation.
It’s something of a change in direction for Squid, marking their signing to Warp by evolving their sound and looking at more introspective themes. That said, they’ve still kept what makes them one of the most exciting new bands in the UK, so it’ll be fascinating to see where they can go from here.
