TOUTS – ‘Before We Go Forward’ | New Music

Fresh from 3 support slots with rising cult heroes The Magic Gang, Derry born 3 piece TOUTS aren’t messing around.

Later this month they will embark on a 10 date UK headline stint that will take them up to Scotland and across the Irish sea, before the tour concludes at London’s Borderline, on Sunday 31st March.

And today they share their latest offering ‘Before We Go Forward’. Bearing similarities to past heroes such as The Clash and The Dammed, it has a nostalgic feel, which is noticeable in the production as well as the songwriting. This is a refreshing change, as personally I feel too many ‘rock n roll acts’ tend to over produce and commercialise raw, 3 minute punk tracks, which is somewhat of an oxymoron. There’s no danger of that here.

The single is a follow up to the 2018 EP ‘Analysis Paralysis’, and picks up where the 4 track release left off. With a thumping rhythm section, and sharp, hard guitar playing. However I feel that this release doesn’t have the same energy, and is quite one dimensional throughout. That said, I feel that this release is their strongest vocal performance to date.

Overall then, I feel the track’s name is ironic, and appropriate, as it doesn’t really feel like a step forward at all for the 3 piece.

Overall – 3/5
