First things first how did you come to be?
Myself and Will were in a band together previously which came to a natural end. I suppose it wasn’t really a question of ‘do we want to start another band?’ but more like ‘when are we starting the new band?’ and getting likeminded individuals for whom music matters. Ash was involved with covering a couple of shows with the old band and he was obviously there from the start in Delamere. We had another friend on bass originally, but he spontaneously combusted (left). We’ve all known Daws for years and he had previously played bass for another stoke band which had ceased and was more than up for it. Voila, Delamere.
What genre of music would you say you play?
I honestly couldn’t pigeon hole it, I think there’s aspects of a few genres chucked in there. I think indie naturally covers a large area nowadays, so we’ll chuck that in, with a dash of electronic, a sprinkle of alternative and a pinch of pop for the hooks.
Which bands/artists do you take influences from?
The list for us all can be quite eclectic, me personally I’d say, Radiohead, Local Natives, Brand New, The Beatles, Blur, Foals. That’s probably the stable diet of influence, but to be honest for influence or inspiration, anything we hear on a daily basis, whether its Taylor Swift or Mansionair, there’s aspects of songs of all genres we admire and find influence from.
Best venue you’ve ever played and why?
This is tough, we’ve played a fair few and you get to like venues for different things you wouldn’t really think too much about. I personally enjoyed The Deaf Institute, just for the vibe the room has to it, but I’m going to stay loyal and say our local venue The Sugarmill, I love the sticky floors and the toilets you would never sit on. I love going to gigs there and always enjoy playing there, we know all the team there too so it’s a good environment you’re walking into.
Best gig you’ve ever attended?
Me and Ash went to see At The Drive In when they reformed for that Brixton gig a couple of years ago, that was pretty mega, full on workout just to stay on your feet.. Its definitely up there!!
A band you would most like to support and why?
Personally, any of the bands I mentioned before would be a massive honor. I’d like to support Catfish and the Bottlemen though, think they’re a great band, but more importantly they all seem really sound lads, they come across really humble and all love FIFA.
A band that you would like to work with?
I don’t understand the question to be honest, in a recording term or tour sense. Either way any of the above would be a bonus, but we’re quite happy to work with anyone that’s into it and into it for the right reasons. Nothing worse if you’re trying to put out your best and you’re working with someone that’s not fully invested. Just turns half arsed!
Top five albums you’ve ever heard?
Changes so frequently, id never be happy to say ‘top 5, go’.. and remain happy with it. Favourites that will always remain favourites though are:
Local Natives = Gorilla Manor
Radiohead = The Bends
Mars Volta – De-loused in the comatorium
The Beatles – Let it Be
Pixies – Doolittle
Biggest accomplishment as a band/solo artist?
I think we’ve been a band that’s had a good steady progression of things that we’re happy about, I’d say its tough to single out an individual achievement and say that’s it. We were happy to sell out our first single launch at the Deaf Institute, gave us a good buzz. We’re really chuffed to be announced for all three dates for this year’s Dot to Dot festival!
What’s next in the pipeline?
Selling out the Night and Day (pretty certain that we’re there on that one) for our EP launch of Bright Young Things. Got a few decent festival shows this summer we’re looking forward to and then onto the release of our second EP at the back end of summer. We’re looking to get back in the studio too amongst all that, so a busy year planned ahead.
Cheers guys for your time, really appreciate it! Just would like to apologise for the one question, we shall specify from here on in!
